Holiday Parties

It’s time to start preparing my solo instrumental guitar music for this year’s Holiday Parties.

Depending on the type of Holiday Party I play for, I select a certain style of instrumental solo guitar music. For Example, if the holiday party is mainly themed on a sit down formal dinner, I’ll play my classical guitar arrangements of favorite Christmas carols. Hymns like “Once In Royal David’s City,” “Il Est Ne Le Divin Enfant” and “What Child is This?” are examples of Christmas hymns that I would play for more formal holiday parties.

If the holiday party’s theme were more casual and more like a cocktail hour type of affair, I would play some of my upbeat jazz styled arrangements on my jazz guitar. Selections for this type of event might include, “We Need a Little Christmas,” “Silver Bells,” “Jingle Bells” and “Have a Holly Jolly Christmas.”

When I’m discussing the type of music to be played at a holiday party, I always ask the client to describe their vision for the event. This gives me some insight on how to plan the music.
